The “One Thing” All Successful Marketers Share

In this classic scene from the movie “City Slickers” Jack Palance, as grizzled cowboy Curly, shares the secret of life with Manhattan yuppie Mitch (Billy Crystal).

“One thing,” says Curly. “You stick to that and everything else don’t mean shit.”

If you asked 100 successful Internet Marketers what is the “One Thing” that is responsible for most of their income, I bet every one of them would say it was their email list.

Not their websites, not SEO, not their “ninja marketing skills”, not even their product launches. No, the “One Thing” they value most is their email list.

It’s simple really. When you have a list of email subscribers you can drive traffic to any offer at any time. In other words, you can create cash on demand.

Whether it’s products you create or products you want to promote as an affiliate, you can

You don’t have to wait for wait for “organic” traffic from the search engines, you don’t have to pay for expensive ads, you don’t have to cross your fingers and hope people will find your offer … you simply write a quick email, press send and watch the cash come rolling in.

Of course, you have to have a decent size list of people who are likely to buy. And it makes a big difference whether or not you have taken the time to develop a relationship with your subscribers. But if you do it right, building a list is the most important thing you can do in your Internet Marketing life.

Without a list, it is very difficult to create steady, dependable, repeatable income month in and month out — the kind of income that allows you to quit that 9 to 5 job that you hate and focus on the things you really want to do.

In the early days of IM, people made fortunes by direct linking ads on Google to affiliate and CPA offers. It was literally like shooting fish in a barrel — throw up some quick ads, link them directly to an offer, get paid, rinse, repeat. I mean people were making MILLIONS.

But then, without warning, the rules changed and direct linking was no longer allowed and million-dollar revenue streams dried up overnight.

The smart ones had started building their lists before the plug was pulled. The rest had to scramble. Some adapted and survived, many did not.

The moral of the story is, when you depend on someone else for traffic, your revenue – and your business – is at risk of disappearing without warning.

But when you have your own list of loyal email subscribers, you will always be in control of your traffic.

So, if you haven’t started building your list, START NOW!

It’s the “One Thing” you can do to ensure your future success.

In the immortal words of Curly, “you stick to that and everything else don’t mean shit.”
